The first things that pop into the head of most people when they hear “flowers” are roses. In addition, there is no doubt about it, roses are a very popular flower, and they can have many different meanings. The red rose undoubtedly signifies love, while the yellow rose is often reserved for friendship. You can have a whole conversation with someone, just by giving her (or him) a vase of roses.

You know, though, roses are not the only flowers out there, and sometimes another flower might say it even better than a rose could. Don’t forget the Casablanca lilies when it’s time for a celebration! What about tulips, especially in the springtime? Yellow tulips should go to the one with whom you are hopelessly in love, while pink tulips simply tell someone that you care. In addition, why don’t you consider sending a bouquet of stately irises to the one that inspires you?

Whatever you are feeling for that special someone, you are sure to find a flower that will say it better than you ever could. If you have a mix of emotions, let your florist know what you want to say and then sit back as they choose the perfect flowers to speak your mind.

If you have trouble seeing flowers snipped from the stem, then you can certainly consider giving plants as a gift. Flowering plants can have their own meanings, as well, such as hibiscus for a delicate beauty, or a gladiolus for someone that is strong in character. The beauty of these flowers will not fade after a few days, as the receiver can simply transplant them and keep them beautiful and fragrant for years.

Just remember, though there are certain meanings that are attached to almost every flower, there really are no rules. Lavender is a popular flower that means distrust, but should you refuse to give it just because of the meaning attached? What about heather, which signifies solitude? Can you really send a flower that says, “I want to be alone,” when you’re really trying to say “I want you right here with me?” Of course you can! If your loved one has a particular favorite, sometimes it’s nice just to send a bouquet, whatever the meaning. Because, when it comes right down to it, the real meaning behind the flowers that you’re sending is “I’m thinking of you.”
